Message from SPL
Hello Troop 93
My name is Zach W. and I will be serving as your new Senior Patrol Leader. I have
been in Scouting now for over 9 years now and some of my absolute best life
experiences have come out of this troop and I couldn’t be more grateful. With Troop
93 I have rafted down three rivers, backpacked across the Ventana and Sierra
wildernesses, snorkeled and sailed off the coast of Catalina Island, ridden horses
in the hills of Northern California, and have had hundreds of other great experiences
ranging from skiing to shooting to tying and rowing. My goal as your new SPL is to
give you the opportunity to make your own memories and have your own adventures
that you will remember for a lifetime. From these adventures I hope you will not only
enjoy yourself but also learn valuable lessons that you may profit from for the rest of
your life. I also wish to stress upon you the importance of living by your Scout law.
The law that you pledge and say every other Thursday. I hope that this law is not just
empty words to you but a code to live by. For I have found that if you apply these code
not only at Scout meetings but in every aspect of your life, you will find that the
kindness and respect you show others will in turn be shown to you.
Troop History
Troop 93 in Salinas, California is an active group of young men committed to having
fun and supporting our community.
We thank our sponsor, Church of the Good Shepherd, and our council, the Monterey
Bay Area Council.
The application to start a new troop was approved by Phil Ready for the local council
on December 1, 1950. The sponsor for the new troop was the Corral de Tierra
Community Club at Washington Union School, Dorothy F. Damonte, Chairperson.
The new troop first met at the Damonte house at 7 Paseo Segundo and the at the
home of the first scoutmaster, Charles H. Binns, at 50 Harper Canyon Road. The
sponsor for Troop 93 changed its name to the Corral de Tierra Mothers Club, then
back to the Corral de Tierra Community Club, then to the Mothers Club of
Washington School, then in 1963 it became the Parents Club of Washington Union
Elementary School. In 1970, the sponsoring agency became The Church of the
Good Shepherd. In 1988 the Cypress Community Church became the Troop 93
sponsor. From 1993 to 2003, the sponsor was again The Church of the Good
Shepherd in Corral de Tierra. From 2003 to 2010, Cypress Community Church was
our sponsor. In February 2010, we returned to Church of the Good Shepherd, where
we are today.
